Just say no to Malaria pills!!!!!!!!

Greetings everyone! So I am currently in Dubai and will be leaving here tomorrow. The city is very beautiful but very expensive. Oh and crazy HOT! Yesterday my aunt and I had some dinner and went to a souk to look for some local goodies. We didn't end up buying anything, but the souk itself was very nice.

Last night was the first time I had to take one of my Malaria pills. I felt fine all night and even when I was awake at 4 in the morning from jetleg. However, I wish I could say the same for this morning. I was SOOOOO sick. I didn't even think I was going to get to see Dubai at all. The room was spinning and I was so nausous. I managed to make it down to breakfast where I got a piece of bread and some fruit in me. During that time I had to make a few runs to the bathroom and back up to the room for some Gravol. We decided that it would be best for me to take a nap and to try to sleep it off. So my aunt went out on her own for a awhile and came back to get me a few hours later. I was feeling a bit better by that time.

Once we got out (oh did I mention is was HOT) we went to the Mall of Emirates. Beautiful HUGE mall. They have a ski hill in there and a lake plus many other strange things. It was very funny to see Aribic people in there dress working on a ski hill. All the people looked like they were having the best time though.

Then we got some lunch, that seemed to really make me feel a lot better. After lunch we went to the Gold Souk and got harassed by some vendors. I ended up buy a tunic there which was a lot of fun. When trying to decide what size I should get the man asked if I was married. He said that if I was not married I should get the large and that if I was married I could get the medium. So funny. He then asked how old I was (he guessed 23, God bless that man:) When I told him 31 I think he was a bit shocked. He then went on to tell me that I should get the large because in a couple of years I will grow big. So funny. Needless to say, I got the medium:) Oh I forgot to mention that this souk was all outdoors. IT WAS HOT!!!!!! I held up surprising well though.

After the gold souk we hit up an other indoor souk. This one was really nice. They had stuff from all over the middle east and parts of Africa. It was so beautiful inside.

All in all my trip here has been good. Minus the sickness. I didn't get to take a lot of pictures as everything is a drive away, plus everything here is under construction. Literally. I'm excited to move on tomorrow and to get to Uganda.

I'm taken my second Malaria pill tonight, so wish me luck for tomorrows flight. Yiks!

I'm update as soon as I get in Uganda.

The beginning.....

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog!

I created this blog in hopes of keeping you all updated on my progress while in Uganda. Because of the unreliability of the internet (and power) in Mukono, I thought this would be the best way of keeping in touch with everyone rather than sending a ton of different emails. I will try to update this blog as much as possible but there are no promises as to how often that will be.

For your reference, Uganda is 7 hours ahead of Toronto. For those of you who need to get in contact with me you can email me at jenjmack@hotmail.com I ask that you don't send any emails unless they are of an urgent nature, as I will not have a lot of time to check them all.

Oh and just to let everyone know who donated, all together we raised $8700!!!! I think that's incredible!! I will try to include in the blog where the money is being spent and how the kids are reacting. To date some of the money has been spent to buy school supplies such as pencils, erasers, note pads, a dictionary and encyclopedia as well as some fun toys!

I think that's it!!! I leave for my adventure on Friday the 27th and will return to Toronto on Aug 2nd.

Thanks to everyone who supported me taking this trip and to all of you who donated.

P.S. Enjoy the little slide show on the side. These are pictures of where I will be staying while In Uganda. Check out that toilet!!!!! (or should I say hole in the ground)
